About

Who?

Who am I?

My name is Nate Campbell, I was born and raised in the small town of Berlin, Connecticut in the The United States. In 2018, I graduated from the University of Connecticut with a Bachelors Degree in Communications. At the moment, I am living in Tampa, Florida, one of the fastest growing cities in the U.S.

While wandering around the globe, I mainly enjoy exploring the landscape, capturing nature, and interacting with the local wildlife. In more urban settings, I lobe to try any and every local dish, experience the music and entertainment scene, and mingle with the local loiterers, who always see to have the best travel tips. No matter where I find myself, I manage to leave no stone unturned, all while making it to the best spot for sunset.

I believe that my travel experiences should be documented in a way that is both entertaining, yet helpful to any fellow travelers. All of the posts on this page come from first hand experiences, and will always be 100% authentic and honest. I hope anyone who comes across this site enjoys it, and can use these posts as a guide to an easier, less-stressful, and more entertaining travel experience.

What?

What is International Loiterer?

This collection of blog posts, stories, photographs, and videos should serve as a guide to anyone seeking travel advice, tips, or general information while wandering the globe. All of my posts will revolve around places I have been, and events that I have experienced to ensure the most reliable guidance possible.

If you are looking for the best information that you won’t find on a travel brochure, this is the place for you. Lowkey restaurants, hidden sunset spots, where to find the best live local music, and anything else that the common traveler might miss, can be found in these posts. If you’re looking for the best place to buy a souvenir mug and take pictures with your selfie stick, this might not be the site for you.

When?

When was International Loiterer born?

The idea for this site originally came in 2021, but the phrase “International Loiterer” was coined back in 2018. It came to me as I was quite literally internationally loitering around the streets of Rome, Italy. Wandering around the streets during siesta, looking for any restaurant that was actually open, the term hit me as hard as the crisp taste of the Peroni in my hand.

I realized in that moment that I might have something there. The phrase is just as unique and original as it is relatable. Aren’t we all, more or less, international loiterers? The truth is, we are all wandering around this planet with no clear and concise plan. Some may have things more figured out than others, but at the end of the day, we’re all the same; floating through this life like the leaves on the ground of that autumn evening in Rome.

We all have these moments of clarity. Mine happened to come in the form of aimlessly wandering through a random Roman neighborhood, Peroni in hand.

So I pose the question; When will yours be?

Where?

Where have I been? Where am I going?

I grew up in Connecticut, traveling mostly around the states in New England, but ventured anywhere on the east coast, from Toronto to Florida. In New England we get all four seasons, so enjoying the beaches of Cape Cod and Rhode Island, viewing the autumn leaves changing in Connecticut, snowboarding the mountains in Vermont, and experiencing Christmas in New York City were all part of my upbringing. Having so many different climates so easily accessible certainly sparked my love for traveling early on.

After graduating from UConn in 2018, I moved to Rome where I worked as a tour guide, traveling mainly around Italy while also exploring a few other parts of Europe. This was the beginning of my long term travels, where I would move to locations for long periods of time, working and living in different areas.

In 2019, I decided to move to Melbourne, Australia with a few friends I met in Italy. The pandemic extended my stay there, allowing me to move out of Melbourne and travel all around the country, while living in Cairns, Perth and Broome. Australia was the most beautiful country I have traveled to so far, and I would recommend anyone make the trip out there at some point in their life.

In the beginning of 2022 I returned back to the United States, residing in Tampa, Florida, where I currently live. Tampa is a growing, vibrant city, and has recently been regarded as one of the most live-able cities in America, and for good reason. There’s never a dull moment around Tampa, but make sure to keep your eyes peeled for the infamous “Florida Man”.

Moving forward, the main places on my wish list are Central America, South America, Africa, Southeast Asia, and the West Coast of The United States. I plan to continue traveling for quite some time, as I am open to exploring just about any location on Earth, or beyond…

Why?

Why should you listen to me?

Honestly, I’m no one special. I’m just a guy from Connecticut that loves traveling and exploring the world. I’m not some world famous writer (yet), or a professional travel agent. There is no alternate agenda, I’m not trying to sell you some travel packages for my own benefit.

These posts are based on real travel experiences by a traveler, for a traveler. If you’re reading this, Ive been in your shoes. Probably could use a bit more money, not knowing what lies ahead, and wishing someone would offer some guidance or advice on how to attack the upcoming journey. I am simply writing what I wish I could have read before going into the travels I have been on in my life.

If nothing else comes of this, I hope it can guide you and allow for a better overall travel experience.
